2018 Events

Happy New Year!!!!

This year I am super excited that I will be attending the
ICON 10 Illustration Conference. I've been wanting to attend for so long but either did not have the time or the money. I would say this year I did not really have the money either, but I took the leap and will be saving my pennies for the next few months. I'm super stoked that it is going to be so close this year, the flight is only going to be a few hours from Boston!

A little less crazy-exciting, but still super cool: this year Tom Swift and I will be exhibiting at NEW ZINELAND. This is a super indie, hand-made  zine sale just off of the Central T stop in Cambridge. We will have a bunch of new very limited edition zines and ephemera for this show. I will probably not bring any originals to this show, just paper bits and bobs.

Once again we will be doing the FPAC Spring and Fall open studios. The dates and events are a bit up in the air right now, so keep an eye on their website. If you are looking for larger pieces, originals or oils this is your best opportunity to browse these paintings since I rarely bring my larger pieces to cons and sales.

Hope to see you sometime this year,
and if you can not make it to any of my shows in person you can always visit me @

Winter Wonders

A big thanks to everyone that made it out to the FPAC fall open studios.
It was great to see all the old faces (and some new ones).
It is always nice to meet other artists and catch-up.
Below are some images from open studios, if you were not able to make it.

This year I will be showing my work at the
RISD HOLIDAY SALE – SATURDAY, DECEMBER 13, 2014

I usually do not do any sales around the holidays. I have been using the time to catch up on illustration commissions and take a little break between work and classes. This year Nicole of Honeydew Studio asked me to split a table with her and I figured I could not pass-up the opportunity.

Hopefully I will have some more Life Science wordless card games printed out by then as well as some new business cards and prints.

Retro Future

I've been working on another neat illustration project "Life Science".
If all goes according to planned I hope to be releasing it at the FPAC spring open studios.
  • This project is another series of illustrations focused on frogs and robots, but a little more retro-modern in theme. I had an awesome time researching retro-futurism.
    • Retro-futurism depicts the influence of the future produced in an earlier era. This aesthetic is characterized by a blend of old-fashioned "retro" styles with futuristic technology. Retro-futurism explores the themes of tension between past and future, and between the alienating and empowering effects of technology. Sort of steampunkish but in this case rather than being based in Victorian times my aesthetic was based in the retro 40's and 50's. (Diesel punk and Atomic Age) The "Atomic Age" is a descriptor typically used to name the period of history following the detonation of the first nuclear  bomb.
    •

focuses on Utopias and the pasts vision of the future and time capsules

Why frogs?
With this vision of the future I wanted to counterpoint by depicting the effects of  a consumerist robot-centric society on the environment. Most frogs require suitable habitat in both the land and water environments, they have permeable skin that can easily absorb toxic chemicals. These traits make frogs especially susceptible to environmental disturbances, because of this frogs are considered  indicators of environmental stress.

The Life Science wordless story game is now for sale on Etsy.

Fall Open Studios 2012

Here are some pictures I took during the fall FPAC open studios.

A big thank you to everyone that stopped buy to say hi. I did crazily well, and am now out of prints. It seems like it may be about time to do a re-stock. I'm hoping to order some more prints from iolabs (my favorite printing company, so far) and maybe put together a little postcard pack before the holidays.

Summertime

I just finished the first semester of my Graphic Design certificate program at MassArt.
Pheew.. I did not realize that I had not updated my blog since I started classes.
I have been really busy with school, but I did manage to sneak in a few art projects during the semester:

I did an illustration for the band The Nanker Phelge
(Meerkat and Wombat)

I just recently finishes a quick illustration for a Paul Frank Contest:

This summer I will be practicing my newly learned graphic design skills by trying to put a short comic book together. I'm also planning on getting some more stickers, buttons and prints. My inventory is so low right now I only had about 10 prints and 10 buttons to sell at the FPAC spring art walk, whoops!

Back to the drawing board for the summer.
I will be doing the Boston Arts Festival and FPAC open studios before I go back to school in the fall.
see you then.

Open Studios Baking

I love baking,, once upon a time I had dreams of being a pastry chef. For open studios I originally wanted to by a bunch of sugar skulls and decorate them, but they were to expensive and not that tasty. Later I was browsing e-bay for sugar skulls and found these really cute cookie cutters. I decided to make a big batch of skull cookies. I also made some cupcakes to go with my new working cat series. Yum!! My mini-cupcakes came out a lot better this year, they had a more even size. I used Icing in a can, for the first batch. How easy! I had a great time at open studios. A big thanks to everyone that made it out in all the snowy stormy weather. After a very busy weekend, I'm planning on kicking back for a few days before I get started on new work for my "The Long Way Home" show in January. -Jen
